City of Markham 2018 Spring Clean-Up Week

The City of Markham’s Annual Spring Clean-Up will begin on Monday, May 14th and end Thursday, May 17th for MARKHAM RESIDENTS ONLY!


Each resident is allowed ONE clean-up day. Your garbage day is your ONLY clean-up day. Please make sure all items are placed on the curb before 7am on your SCHEDULED GARBAGE DAY.  Items placed outside after your garbage day WILL NOT be picked up for free. Residents may place unlimited amounts of garbage and household items for pick-up EXCEPT any electronic devices, building materials, paint, engine parts, or tires. Regular scheduled garbage service will return on Monday, May 21st. ***It is the homeowner’s responsibility to dispose of all electronic devices. Please DO NOT drop-off any electronics, i.e. televisions, computers or radios, at City Hall.  Please visit http://www.epa.illinois.gov for electronic recycling locations. 


The Public Works Department will also pick up branches and bushes. PLEASE HAVE ALL BRANCHES/BUSHES PILED ON THE CURB before 7am on your SCHEDULED GARBAGE DAY. If your branches/bushes are not placed outside on time, Public Works WILL NOT COME BACK. Branches/bushes MUST BE cut in lengths up to 5 feet.  Whole trees will NOT be picked up. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REMOVAL OF ALL WHOLE TREES.


**YARD WASTE AND LEAVES WILL NOT BE PICKED UP FOR FREE DURING SPRING CLEAN-UP. YARD WASTE AND LEAVES MUST BE PLACED IN PAPER BAGS. ANY PAPER BAGS PLACED OUTSIDE ON YOUR GARBAGE DAY MUST HAVE A YARD WASTE STICKER ATTACHED TO IT. YARD WASTE STICKERS MAY BE PURCHASED AT CITY HALL FOR $2.50 EACH.**

As a reminder to all residents, other than the designated clean-up day, there will be an additional charge for all quantities that exceed the following guidelines:

  • One (1) garbage container issued by Homewood Disposal PER WEEK.
  • Up to two (2) additional bags of household garbage PER WEEK.
  • One (1) bulk item PER MONTH.

The driver will pick up everything except any electronic devices and write a ticket for each additional item exceeding the above guidelines. The charge will be reflected on your monthly garbage statement. Should your collection day fall on or after the following holidays, your collection will be delayed one day during that week: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
