In residential areas, all vehicles parked out-of-doors are required to be licensed and in running condition and must be parked on an all weather surface (566) (1184).

No Parking is permitted on residential streets between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. without appropriate permits.

Vehicles which are in a state of disrepair must be parked in a garage.

PARKING ON LAWNS IS PROHIBITED.

Overnight Parking permits DO NOT supersede the snowfall-parking ordinance.

Parking is prohibited on both sides of ALL streets for a period of 24 hours during and /or following a snowfall of four inches or more.  (931)

Due to conditions beyond their control, some residents must park on the street to avoid other violations such as: driveway too short to accommodate two cars without blocking the walkway, homes built without driveways.

Other conditions may warrant the issuance of an Overnight Parking permit.

Residents must apply by completing application and provide:

1) Current vehicle registration card for the vehicle the permit is to be used.  (Vehicle must be owned and registered in the name of the homeowner or individual who lawfully resides at the address.)

2) Present valid driver’s license showing the address where the vehicle is registered and housed.

3) License plate number

One permit per residence can be issued.  (Special circumstances may require the issuance of more than one)

Replacement permits may be issued at a cost of $5.00 where permit has been damaged i.e. Windshield damage, etc.

Transfer of permit is allowed due to the purchase of a new vehicle and old vehicle was traded in.  More than fifty percent of the permit must be returned to complete a transfer.

Partial permit display may render your permit invalid.  A partial permit is any permit that is 50% or less in tact, or the words “City of Markham”, or the permit number are incomplete or can not be read.

Application must be returned to Office of the Markham City Clerk.

Upon review and approval of the information provided, your permit will be issued within seven to ten business days from the application date.
