Amazon Fullfillment Coming to Markham

Mayor Roger Agpawa and the City Council are thrilled to finally announce the launch of Amazon’s first robotic fulfillment center right here in our growing city.  Amazon employees at the new fulfillment centers will utilize Amazon’s innovative robotics technology to pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics, small household goods, and toys. This technology increases workplace efficiency by allowing employees to dedicate more time to other important tasks. Besides, robotics and automation expedite the processing of customer orders, allowing products to be delivered faster. This will create over 2,000 jobs here in the city.

“We believe that the economic benefit experienced by the City of Markham and surrounding communities will be great and I am truly grateful to Amazon.”  “I am proud of this administration and the leaders of our communities who have worked so hard to ensure that Markham remains viable in an ever-changing commerce climate, “stated Mayor Roger A. Agpawa.

We are grateful to Mike Flannery, regional director of Amazon Operations and Amazon for having the capability to see the future growth and potential of our lovely city. Our city is looking to see tremendous growth and success over the next few years, and we are proud to have amazon be a part of this.  Their investment in the City of Markham solidifies our area as a logistics hub. Amazons leadership will create a positive impact on jobs and culture in the City.

Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly-skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retails stores, and transportation networks, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.

Together as always “Unity for the Community”, growing into “The City With a Vision.”
